The Rise of Korean Car Industries

We would usually have a preference when it comes to automobiles and a certain country would come into mind depending on what we are looking for in a vehicle. We usually think English when it comes to super cars or German when it comes to luxury sedans. Reliability also comes into mind when we think of Japan. This was actually true a couple of years back but things have changed most recently and Koreans are now making their way into the automotive market. True that they have been around for a considerable number of years now and yet they did not get the attention they had hoped for because of the question on quality and styling particularly Hyundai.

We have seen quite a number of models from Hyundai but most of the models that caught our attention were the more functional ones like the vans and the trucks. Sadly the sedans and SUV’s that the company offers is quite not at par with the taste that people have in automobiles. Their design is 5 to 10 years behind the Japanese cars that we grew fond of.

Until much recently we have seen some awesome design changes in all their models and it seemed that the wait was actually worth it. The line has been redesigned and each one is now carrying a certain identity that will more likely bring Hyundai the market share they have aimed for in such a long time.

Hyundai’s flagship model the Sonata has always been an eye catcher for me ever since I was a kid but when set against the higher end sedans that is competing with, I am easily swayed to look at the other cars. In the late 90’s the Hyundai Coupe was a really cool sports car but if you set it right beside the Toyota Celica produced that same year, it seemed that Hyundai lagged behind in their design.

As mentioned this is no longer the case for Hyundai. Slowly the brand is getting rid of the stereotype of Hyundai being a cheap brand. We all know that cheap does not really have an all positive connotation. Little by little this is being replaced with something a bit more positive. One model that has captured the imagination of car lovers all over the world is the Hyundai Genesis. Even the British show Top Gear had praised it for the performance numbers it churns out. The V6 engine used on the car is able to produce the 345bhp that can propel the car up to 152mph or 245kmh which was not really something that was expected of the older models.

As for the SUV market, the Hyundai Santa Fe is turning heads. It has an amazing engine and can even be a great cross-country vehicle. It started out as a compact cross over SUV and back in 2007 it then became a mid-size cross over vehicle. Hyundai definitely placed a lot of thought on the new model since it already has the variations on engine that can even reach 290bhp.

All in all Korea is definitely rising up to the challenge of the automotive industry. If they keep this up they are going more likely to get a bigger share of the market with all the lines they are releasing models for. Who known, in a couple of months you might find yourself driving one right into your garage.

From the mid to early 1970’s a new breed of cars ruled the American streets. The majority of these were intermediate sized automobiles with large block engines stuffed inside. At first these cars were called “super cars” and over time they became know more accurately as muscle cars. The quarter mile was the performance standard and weekend drag racing became very popular.

Many of these cars pulled weekday duty as commuter vehicles, taking their proud owners to work and school. But, on the weekend the guys at the wheel were full fledged “amateur” dragsters. For the first time (and many would argue the only time) in American automotive history, high performance vehicles were available to the masses. The average Joe with a decent job could go to his local dealership and drive away with a ground pounding, tire smoking muscle car. Additionally, in a time before complicated emission controls and computer chips, an average Joe could actually working on his pride.

As the list of the twenty fastest muscle cars points out, the majority of the beasts had domesticated roots. The Road Runners, Chevelles and Chargers were all basic family cruisers. What made them special was those wonderfully powerful big block engines. Even the Camaros and ‘Cudas were decent transportation for the young man with a couple of small children. Only the Corvettes and the Cobra were initially created as sports cars.

As everyone over this generation knows, the muscle car became extinct in the early 1970’s. Rising fuel costs, rising insurance premiums and new safety concerns marked the end of this era. Today the original muscle cars are one of the hottest automotive collectables. Men of a certain age are aggressively bidding for the car of their youthful dreams.

The New Audi RS6 Avant Super Wagon With Forged Wheels

The latest Audi RS model to hit the streets is the new RS6 Avant based on the new C7-gerneration Audi A6 Avant. Even though it is a wagon, the new Audi RS6 Avant still asserts itself as being one of the super cars from the German automakers lineup. The new super car has taken the automotive world by storm, being featured on such websites as Car and Driver, MotorTrend, Automobile, and MotoringExposure, while becoming the poster car for many Audi enthusiasts. It combines the ultimate in vehicle utility along with performance upgrades ranging from the twin-turbocharged V8 engine to the lightweight forged wheels and precise suspension setup.

One of the most exciting aspects of the new Audi RS6 Avant is its new 4.0 TFSI V8 engine that is fed by two turbochargers placed in the “V” of the engine to reduce turbo lag. An array of new technology from cylinder deactivation, automatic stop-start function, direct fuel injection, and low-friction internals also help to reduce fuel consumption while also contributing to the high power output of the engine. The new and advanced V8 engine sends an incredible 560 horsepower /412 kW from 5,700 to 6,700 RPM and 516.29 lb-ft./700 Nm from 1,750 to 5,500 RPM to all four of the standard forged wheels. The incredible amount of power helps the wagon accelerate to 62 mph in just 3.9 seconds and depending on the optional packages that customers order, top speed can be set at 155-, 174-, or 190 mph.

The power produced by the V8 4.0 TFSI engine is sent through an advanced Quattro all-wheel drive system that utilizes new technology such as torque vectoring to all four forged wheels. An eight-speed Tiptronic transmission is the only gearbox option available and has seven close-ratio gears for quicker acceleration times while the final, eighth gear is taller to improve fuel economy while cruising.

In order to handle the high power output from the engine, the chassis had to be upgraded with new suspension components, larger brakes, and lightweight forged wheels. The suspension on the RS6 Avant uses an automatic air system that adjusts to road conditions based on the driver’s settings. The standard brakes are new steel, wave discs with weight-optimized construction and six-piston calipers. As an option, customers can order new carbon fiber ceramic discs for even better stopping power. The standard wheels on the Audi RS6 Avant are lightweight 20-inch forged wheels with seven double-spokes or customers can order three different cast wheel options in 21-inch diameters.

The new Audi RS6 Avant super car is a high performance wagon that will be available in Europe in the first quarter of 2013 from the German automaker.
